Frequently asked questions

What is DOC?

DOC is an iPhone app with an Apple Watch companion for in-office team communication, built by a practicing clinician. The team sends alerts, voice, and text on devices they already carry.

Who makes DOC?

DOC is published by Doctor Office Communicator, Inc., a Delaware corporation.

What devices does DOC need?

An iPhone running iOS 16 or later. The Apple Watch companion needs a paired Apple Watch on watchOS 10 or later. There is no extra hardware to buy.

How do people sign in?

With Sign in with Apple. Signing in proves who you are, but it doesn't give access to an office. An office administrator has to approve your membership.

Who receives an alert?

Alerts can go to the whole office, a group, or one person. On Duty and Off Duty status controls whether a member receives alerts.

What happens when two people respond at once?

Anyone can acknowledge from the notification, the watch, or the app. The server decides who acknowledged first, so two people don't walk to the same room.

Do we have to design our own buttons?

No. Each office's alert buttons are generated during setup, so a new hire's grid is ready on day one.

Can one office see another office's data?

No. DOC is office-scoped by design. A member only has access to their own office.

How much does DOC cost?

Pricing has not been set. Beta offices help set it.

Can we send patient information through DOC?

Not during beta. The beta uses synthetic data only, is not approved for protected health information, and no Business Associate Agreement is in effect.

Is DOC an emergency system?

No. DOC is a communication aid. It is not an emergency system, medical device, or diagnostic tool, and it does not guarantee notification delivery. Keep your emergency protocol and call 911 for a medical emergency.

Do DOC alerts break through Do Not Disturb?

No. DOC uses ordinary iOS notifications, which Focus, Do Not Disturb, and Silent Mode can delay or suppress. "Critical" in DOC is a workflow label, not an Apple Critical Alert.

How do I join the beta?

The beta is invite-only and deliberately small. Request beta access here.
